Email, Mail and Phones

Email

A lot of the communication within the GCR is done via the GCR mailing list. You should be automatically subscribed to this when you arrive, but in order to be added to the list you will need to be registered with Herald email. This is the email service run by the Oxford University Computing Service. You can register with Herald online, but you will need a valid University card.

Email the GCR president if you think that you've been left off the mailing list. The list is a very useful way of keeping abreast with GCR affairs, so it's worth staying subscribed.

Mail

All incoming mail will be placed in your pigeonhole, including internal (i.e. university) mail. If you wish to send a message via pigeon-post (internal) to someone in an Oxford University college, department, or office, place it in the letter box in the door to the porters' office.

During the Christmas and Easter vacations, mail is still placed in your pigeon hole. If you want post to be redirected elsewhere, inform the Steward's Office before you leave Oxford. During the summer vacation, mail will automatically be directed to your registered home address. If you intend to stay at college during the summer months (as graduates often do), you must inform the Steward's Office to continue to pidge your post.

Phones

Most rooms in the Steward's accommodation have a phone that can be used for receiving calls, and for making calls within the university network. There is also a phone in the hallway of the GCR. Phone cards can be bought from the Porters' Lodge. The phone number of the Porters' Lodge is 01865 276150. The porter on duty will be able to take messages and leave them in your pigeonhole.
